Capping it

Lyla is obsessed with putting caps on things, then pulling off the caps, then putting them on, then pulling them off, and so forth. Give her one of those flowery girl body spray things (one that says "Keep out of the reach of children," naturally) and she'll cap and uncap it for entire minutes.

What drives her batty, though, is when a cap won't stay on something. She blames it on poor manufacturing, I think, but in actuality the problem is that it's a screw top and she can't screw it on. I've tried explaining this to her with no success whatsoever.

Another problem is when she has a cap that isn't even a match for what she's trying to put it on. She'll think she's capping it, but it won't stay on, so she tries again, and you sit back and watch her, knowing all along that it's an utterly pointless endeavor. Soon, major freak-outs occur.

And at some point you realize it's bedtime.

  1. love love love this. the faces are perfect. my mother tells me I would flip out similarly when I came across a page in one of my books that my sister had scribbled crayon on, so I feel as if I understand Lyla's disorder tantrums, hahaha.

  7. I make those faces too when I can't find the right lids to my tupperware. I've even ended up tantruming on the kitchen floor, just like that.
