Fingers raised in a V
If you practice numbers with Lyla and raise the appropriate fingers for each number, a strange thing happens when you get to two. Lyla will see your index and middle fingers in the shape of a V, and she will grab them and bring them to her neck, index on one side and middle on the other.
We have no idea why she does this. It's like she's trying to choke herself with your fingers. She thinks it's hilarious, and after a second or two she releases your fingers and allows you to proceed to the number three.
I asked daycare, but apparently fingers interacting with necks is not part of the curriculum. There's no song with a verse that goes, "the finger bone's connected to the...neck bone."
Our best guess is that the sign for the number two reminds Lyla of a necklace. She spends several minutes each morning trying on Mama's necklaces, and she always points to the necklaces of the daycare teachers. Make the sign for two; it sort of looks necklace-like, doesn't it?
So to sum up, our daughter wants to wear a necklace made of human fingers. Awesome.

...yeah, OR she's an alien Visitor. You know, "V." Make sure she doesn't try to eat you.
ReplyDeleteI was reading this counting book to her yesterday, and she did the same thing when I did the 2. Funny!
