Theme week

In honor of spring, at daycare this week you're supposed to dress your kid up according to various themes. Of course, the handout explaining it all is in the pocket of whatever jeans I wore last Thursday. Julie called me during my first period prep hour to express her displeasure.

"You didn't tell me Lyla was supposed to wear Hawaiian today."

"Hello? Do I know you? Who is this?"

"I walk in there with her, and everyone has on these cute Hawaiian shirts because apparently today is Hawaiian day. And Lyla's shirt says 'Ready for the dog park.'"

"Don't they have dog parks in Hawaii?"

"Dan! We have to remember that tomorrow is college day, Wednesday is green day, Thursday is PJ day, and Friday is prom."

"Prom? Are you shitting me?"

"We have the black and white checkered dress from Scott."

"Does she have a date? Do you want me to pick up a corsage?"

"And I think her St. Olaf shirt just barely fits her for tomorrow."

"That 'Um Ya Ya' shirt? Yeah, that's for a six-month-old."

"I think it's twelve. And then the green striped sweater and green pants for Wednesday."

"Yeah, because Green Day is coming."

"You're not funny. It's St. Patrick's Day. You can't let me forget all this."

"Hey, I never forget anything."

"You forgot Hawaiian day."
