A big fish now
Lyla is the senior member of her infant room at daycare. She's the one the other babies go to for advice. If Lyla wears a purple onesie and pink pants, then before long all the babies are wearing purple onesies and pink pants. She's a very big deal.
In three or four months, Lyla will graduate from the infant room and move to the toddler room, a mysterious community of young men and women aged 15 months to 36 months, who sleep on cots and take spelling tests. The girls gossip. The boys shave.
Lyla is a big fish now, but what will happen when she's suddenly a minnow again in this new sea? To prepare her for the transition, her infant room teachers will try to get her down to one nap a day. Apparently in the toddler room you are incredibly uncool if you're a two-napper. Also, it's going to be sippy cups all the way. Bottles in the toddler room are like diapers in kindergarten.
We'll see how it all goes. Hopefully when Lyla's a big toddler, she won't suddenly be too cool to be seen with us.
