Speaking the language

This is the half of the kitchen we're replacing. Note the awful pantry cabinet erect in the middle:

We're also painting over the blue with a color that you can't find in a Crayola eight-pack. But here's what the new cabinets look like:

You have to use your imagination.

A friend of mine at school is an IKEA kitchen genius, so he's coming over on Sunday. It's gonna get crazy over here, ya know. A little wild, a little wacky. I ain't even sure if all that stuff'll fit, but we'll getter done.

Can you tell that I'm not very handy? I can barely even speak the language. Home Depot is always embarrassing:

"Can I help ya find somethin', buddy?"

"Yeah, um, I need some nuts."

But I sort of promised Julie that we'd definitely be able to finish assembling and installing everything on Sunday. My friend insists this is not a foolish promise. I think we might be in trouble.

Lyla has discovered a new way to express her excitement. It goes something like this: "YA YA YA YA YA YA YA YAAAAAA." Sometimes she shouts it while running and flapping her arms over her head. I'm hoping that's how both she and Julie respond when they see the new cabinets.
