Lyla sort of says "please" and we think she sort of says "read." The actual word is an indeterminable consonant followed by what sounds like "ese." Therefore, when she's waving a book in your face, it's tough to tell if she's trying to be polite, or trying to order you around.
"Hi Lyla."
"-ese!"
It might mean this:
"Hi Lyla."
"Please, Dada. Won't you read to me?"
But it more likely means this:
"Hi Lyla."
"Read to me, minion! Reeead!"
Although now that I think about it, she's probably just trying to swap the book for some cheese.
Today a family was hopelessly unsuccessful in getting their 21-month-old to say my name. The closest it came to, consistently, was "aaaah- budge." Two syllables, close enough.
