Colors and shapes

Lyla doesn't know any colors. Is that weird? I hope there isn't a window of color-teaching opportunity that is closing or has closed. We also haven't taught her shapes. Bad us.

Considering Lyla knows about a dozen words, which ones come next? We've decided, arbitrarily, that colors should come next, that it's high time she stop saying "dog" and start saying "blue dog." Which reminds me: we should get a blue dog. Blue would come first, wouldn't it? It's easy to say. "Boo dah." Yes, Lyla, that dog is blue. See, it's practical knowledge, especially when she starts watching that silly Blue's Clues show.

We'll do colors and shapes together. "Blue square!" we'll say, and totally confuse her. "Red circle!" we'll say, and she'll say "Japan!"

Maybe we should forget all this and focus our efforts on "I have to poop."

  3. my sources say that kids don't learn colors until they're like 2.5 years old (1.5-3.5 years) and it's not considered a delay until the kid doesn't know any by age 4 so sheesh give her a break she has genius level skills in other areas such as door opening/closing and cuteness
